Payslip Generator (UK)

Every UK employee and worker must get an itemised payslip on or before payday. It must show pay before and after deductions, the amount of each deduction that can change (income tax, National Insurance, pension, student loan), and the hours worked when pay varies with time worked. Tax code and NI number are usually shown too.

For employers and payroll staff issuing payslips to their own employees from real payroll records. Do not use it to create a payslip for yourself or to show anyone figures that were not actually paid: that is a false document.

Worked example

Press "Fill example figures" to load this example. Earnings: Salary £2,500.00, so gross pay is £2,500.00. Deductions: Income tax (PAYE) £290.20, National Insurance £116.16, Pension (employee) £99.00, £505.36 in all. Net pay is £2,500.00 − £505.36 = £1,994.64, written on the payslip as "One Thousand Nine Hundred Ninety-Four Pounds and Sixty-Four Pence Only". The deduction amounts are examples; work out real ones with your payroll software or the salary calculator for your country.

For employers

Payslips are the last step of a monthly routine: collecting attendance, working out pay and deductions, filing returns, sending slips and answering questions. AI workers now run that routine end to end with a person approving the exceptions. Book a free automation audit and we will show what it would take off your payroll desk.

Please note: the generator formats the figures you enter; it does not check them against tax or labour law. Rules are as checked on 21 October 2026 from the sources below. This is not legal or tax advice.

Questions people ask

What does a UK payslip legally have to show?
Gross pay, net pay, the amount of each variable deduction such as tax and National Insurance, fixed deductions (or a standing statement of them), and hours worked if pay depends on time worked.
Do workers get payslips too, or only employees?
Both. Since 6 April 2019 workers, such as casual and zero-hours staff, have the same right to an itemised payslip as employees.
Is the tax code required on a payslip?
The law does not list it, but HMRC-recognised payroll software shows it and employees need it to check their tax. The generator includes a tax code field.
Can payslips be electronic?
Yes. A PDF or an online payslip is fine as long as the employee can access it on or before payday.
How do I work out PAYE and National Insurance?
Use HMRC-recognised payroll software or the UK salary calculator linked under the form; then enter the results here.
Can I use this to make a payslip for myself?
No. The generator is for employers and payroll staff issuing payslips to their own employees from real payroll figures. A payslip that misstates pay, or is made to show a bank, landlord or visa office something untrue, is a false document and can be a criminal offence.
