Job Offer Letter Generator (UK)

A UK offer letter confirms the job title, start date, pay, hours, holiday, place of work, probation and notice, and states conditions such as a right to work check. By law the employee must also get a written statement of the main terms on or before day one, covering pay, hours, holiday, probation, training, sick pay and notice.

For employers and recruiters making a real job offer. The letter uses standard wording for United Kingdom; check it against your own policies before you send it. Prefer to type it yourself? Download the blank Word template.

For employers

Offer letters are one step in a hiring routine that also covers screening, scheduling interviews, collecting documents and onboarding paperwork. AI workers can run that routine for you, with your team approving each offer. Book a free automation audit to see what it would take off your HR desk.

Please note: the wording follows the rules named on this page as checked on 21 October 2026. It is a starting point, not legal advice; employment law changes often and differs by state, province and emirate. Have senior or unusual offers reviewed by a lawyer.

Questions people ask

Is a job offer letter a contract in the UK?
Once accepted, an unconditional offer creates a contract. You must also give a written statement of the main terms on or before the first day; the offer letter can refer to it.
What must be in the written statement on day one?
Employer and employee names, job title, start date, pay, hours, holiday, place of work, length of the job, probation, benefits, obligatory training, sick pay, other paid leave and notice periods.
Can I withdraw a conditional offer?
Yes, if a condition such as a right to work check or references is not met. That is why the conditions should be listed clearly in the letter.
How much holiday must a UK offer include?
At least 5.6 weeks a year: 28 days for someone working five days a week, which may include the 8 bank holidays. Part-time staff get the same pro rata.
What notice period should I put?
At least the statutory minimum: one week from either side in the first two years, then the employer must give one week per full year of service up to 12 weeks. One month is common for office roles.
Is this offer letter legally binding?
Once the candidate signs it, an offer letter can form part of the employment contract, so check every term before sending it. The generator writes standard wording from the rules named on this page; it is not legal advice, and you should have a lawyer review letters for senior or unusual roles.
