Bahrain Take-Home Salary Calculator (2026)

Bahrain does not tax salaries. Expatriates pay only 1% of their wage for unemployment insurance. Bahraini employees pay 8% to the Social Insurance Organization: 7% pension and 1% unemployment insurance. Both apply to wages up to BHD 4,000 a month, so the most a Bahraini pays is BHD 320.

Worked example

Ahmed, a Bahraini, earns BHD 1,000 a month. SIO takes 7% pension = BHD 70 and 1% unemployment insurance = BHD 10, so BHD 80 a month. No income tax. Take-home pay: BHD 920 a month (BHD 11,040 a year).

An expatriate on the same salary pays only the 1% unemployment insurance (BHD 10) and takes home BHD 990 a month.

Employer rate rises to 2028

Bahrain's social insurance reform raises the employer's pension contribution for Bahraini staff by 1% every January until 2028. The employee rate stays at 7% pension plus 1% unemployment insurance, so take-home pay is not affected by the increases.

For employers

Running payroll by hand (tax tables, contributions, payslips, filings) is routine work that AI workers now handle with almost no staff time. See what an employee really costs you, or book a free automation audit for your payroll.

Please note: figures follow the published 2026 rates as checked on 21 October 2026 for a resident employee in the standard case. Not included: GCC nationals (home-country rates), the minimum insured wage, and which allowances your employer reports as insured wage; enter the insured wage if it differs from your gross pay. This is a guide, not tax advice; your payslip can differ because of tax codes, benefits and timing.
